Dr. Deb was born in Midnapur, West Bengal, India. After completing his B.Sc. from Calcutta University and M.Sc. from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) he joined Prof. I. N. N. Namboothiri's lab in IIT-Bombay for his Ph.D, degree. Here he worked on the synthesis of novel multifunctional molecules starting from nitroalkenes. Then he moved to New Jersey, USA to join Prof. Daniel Seidel's lab at Rutger's University for his first postdoctoral study. Here he worked on asymmetric catalysis employing novel hydride shift methodology. Then he moved to Singapore to join Prof. Naohiko Yoshikai's lab at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Here he worked on transition metal-catalyzed C-H activation methods. After working in Bristol-Myers Squibb at Bangalore as a research investigator (Project Leader) for one year he joined CSIR-IICB as a senior scientist & assistant professor (AcSIR) (Jan 2014-Jan 2018).  He worked as a Principal scientist & Associate Professor (AcSIR) (Jan 2018 - Jan 2022). Currently, he is holding the position of Senior Principal Scientist (Jan 2022 - Present).
